The ACE Academy

Thank you for visiting the ACE Academy website.

A brief history

The school was opened in 1927 as Tipton Central School and situated on Alexandra Road. It served the local area as a grammar school for around 700 boys and girls; its name was subsequently altered to Tipton County Grammar School.

Tipton Grammar merged with nearby Park Lane Secondary School in Queens Road in September 1969 becoming a comprehensive school and changing its name Alexandra High School. New buildings were added to the Alexandra Road site in about 1980, and the Park Lane site closed in July 1990 locating the school on a single site. In 1995 a new sixth form centre was added and the older buildings were partly rebuilt in 2011/2012. The school converted to an academy on 1st March 2013, and was reopened by Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex as The ACE Academy sponsored by the University of Wolverhampton’s Education Central Multi Academy Trust.

Today, ACE is a modern, vibrant and well-equipped Academy serving the community of Tipton. We are an Academy with high expectations of our students both in the way they conduct themselves and the academic standards they achieve.  At ACE we place a great emphasis on developing well rounded, confident and aspirational young people, preparing them well for further and higher education, the work place and their roles as future leaders and contributors to their communities.

ACE stands for ‘Alexandra College of Enterprise’, reflecting the importance we place on a curriculum that extends beyond the delivery of strong academic attainment. At ACE we are committed to ensuring that our students develop the skills and attributes demanded by employers in the 21st century. But we go further; recognising the contribution of the ‘small business’ to in the UK economy, ACE has invested in unleashing the entrepreneur in every one of our students; offering them the opportunity to work with successful businesses and business leaders in the area.  If you are a local employer and would like to become involved in working with us, we would be delighted to hear from you.

Our strong relationship with the University of Wolverhampton, through being the largest member of Education Central Multi Academies Trust, plays a pivotal role in ensuring our students are ready for the next stage in their learning career, whether it be at our local Universities or beyond. We have a large and successful Sixth Form and our vocational courses are a particular strength, generating some of the best results in the area.

As an Academy we have a strong commitment to traditional values of democracy, tolerance, freedom, belief in personal responsibility, mutual respect and fairness. We place a huge emphasis on excellent behaviour and 100% attendance, insisting on the highest possible standards. We care about our students’ development and achievements and never knowingly provide anything but first class support, care and guidance to enable our students to thrive. We always endeavour to make learning exciting, engaging, challenging and fun.

I am incredibly proud to be associated with ACE and the drive to secure the best education possible for the young people who study here. As a staff we are uncompromising about ensuring that the quality of provision at ACE is of a standard that we would want for our own children, and outstanding by Ofsted standards.  Our website can only give you a brief glimpse of our school, but if you would like to work, study or contribute to the work of this exciting and vibrant school, please get in touch. I would be proud and delighted to show you around.
